Eastern Kentucky University tuition recommended to rise 14.5 percent
Associated Press
RICHMOND, Ky. - Tuition at Eastern Kentucky University would go up 14.5 percent next year under a proposal the school's board of regents will consider later this month.
The increase amounts to $242 a semester for in-state undergraduates, who would pay $2,138 in the fall 2005. Residence hall costs would go up $144 a semester for a basic room. Meal plans would rise about 2.5 percent. Thanks in part to a $5.8 million increase in state money over last year's appropriation, Eastern employees would get a 3.5 percent raise. They received a 1.5 percent raise a year ago. Their health insurance costs, which stayed the same this year, will go up about 10 percent. The $5.8 million will help Eastern recover from years of cuts, said Debbie Newsom, the university's interim vice president for financial affairs. The cost of attending Eastern would remain close to the lowest in the state, she said.
